This practical and comprehensive course provides participants with the necessary knowledge and hands-on skills to safely and effectively splice and terminate medium-voltage cables. Participants will gain practical experience through extensive lab work using industry-standard tools and materials. Each participant will receive their own dedicated set of consumables, including cable termination kits, cable samples, and miscellaneous supplies (tape, cleaners, solvents, etc.), enabling practical skill development through direct hands-on experience.

Requirements:
Participants should have basic familiarity with cable systems. Safety toe shoes are mandatory.

Learning Objectives:

Upon completion, participants will be able to:

  • Identify medium-voltage cable types, components, and design.

  • Safely use splicing tools.

  • Properly prepare, install, and handle cables.

  • Perform splicing and terminating in a lab using tape, shrink, molded, and modular technologies.

  • Perform DC dielectric testing in lab.

Included in Course Fee:
The fee includes essential consumables such as cable termination kits, medium-voltage cable samples, and miscellaneous supplies (tape, cleaners, solvents, etc.) required for hands-on lab training. Each participant receives individual materials for practical exercises, ensuring maximum hands-on experience.

Who should attend: Engineers, electricians, supervisors, and cable splicers responsible for installation, maintenance, splicing, and terminating medium-voltage cable systems.

  • Estian Coetzee, Midlite Powerline Construction
I found the course and the instructor very informative. Being new to the trade (powerline), I learnt a lot of new information that I can implement for my upcoming shift. Learning from peers' personal experience was great as well.
  • Fred Price, Stuart Olson
This course was very insightful & interesting from an electrical perspective, where we don't usually deal with high voltage as much as linemen. The instructor was very knowledgeable & very willing to help when I didn't understand something.
  • Curtis Hicknell, Aptim
The course and instructor were good. Instructions were clear with good hands-on training.
  • Jason Coish, Aptim
I am very pleased overall. As someone who has never attempted any high voltage splicing, I was able to grasp the skills needed for a successful splice, and the steps to do the job made sense and were clear.
